the dramatic scene in Couch Place alley behind the
Iroquois. Victims crawled across scaffolding planks from the
Iroquois Theater to Northwestern, while others fell
to the bricks below, sometimes jumping to escape
flames, others pushed from behind by desperate people trying to
escape the fire and smoke in the balconies.
Around one hundred twenty-five victims met their deaths
in Couch Place.
